If you want to make OSB board by yourself to make SIP, then first you need the related OSB production equipments to make OSB board from raw materials wood, usually by Pine, eucalyptus, poplar, bamboo and others. The whole OSB production line process is Wood → Disc chipper → Ring flaker /Peeling machine → Dryer →Glue dosing system /Glue mixer /Blender → Mat forming line → Continuous Multi-rolls Pre-press → Multi-layers Hot press /Continuous Hot press → Automatic Edge trimming machine line → Quality test and packing.

Ring Flaker, for making long wood strands, as the materials for making OSB board.
Working Flow:
Wood feeding: Wood chips or small-diameter wood are conveyed into the chipper via a conveyor belt.
High-speed cutting: The annular cutter head rotates, and the flying knife and the bottom knife work together to slice the wood into thin sheets.
Screening: Qualified wood shavings are discharged through the screen, while oversized ones are sent back for re-crushing.
Discharge: The shavings are conveyed to the drying section by air flow or mechanical means.
Rotary drum dryer, for drying wood strands moiusture, make its final moisture to be 2%~6%
Work flow:
Fresh shavings (with a moisture content of 40% to 60%) are conveyed to the feeding end of the drum by a belt conveyor or a screw feeder. The drum rotates at a low speed of 3 to 8 RPM. The internal lifting plates repeatedly throw and scatter the shavings, increasing the contact area with the hot air. Drying time: Usually 20 to 40 minutes (depending on the thickness of the shavings and the initial moisture content). The dried shavings (with a moisture content of 2% to 6%) are discharged from the end of the drum, separated by a cyclone separator and then enter the temporary storage bin
Drum screen, It is mainly used for sorting qualified wood shavings, removing impurities and grading wood shavings of different sizes to ensure the quality stability of subsequent laying and hot pressing processes
Work flow:
The dried wood shavings (with a moisture content of 2% to 6%) are conveyed into the feeding end of the cylindrical screen by conveying equipment.
The screen cylinder rotates at a low speed, and the wood shavings roll along with the screen cylinder and move towards the discharging end under the action of gravity.
Wood shavings of different sizes are screened through screens of different sizes.
The unqualified large pieces are returned to the crusher for reprocessing. The qualified material outlet: sent to the spreading machine for directional spreading. The fine powder outlet: It is collected and used for combustion in boilers or discarded
Glue blender, It is used to evenly mix the dried wood chips with adhesives (such as PMDI, phenolic resin, etc.) to ensure that the surface of each wood chip is evenly covered with the adhesive solution, which directly affects the bonding strength and water resistance of the board
Work flow:
The dried wood shavings (with a moisture content of 2% to 6%) are conveyed into the glue mixer through metering and conveying equipment. The flow rate is monitored in real time by sensors. The adhesive (such as PMDI) is heated (about 40°C) and evenly sprayed onto the surface of the wood shavings through atomizing nozzles. The drum or rotor rotates at a low speed (10 to 30 RPM) to ensure full contact between the wood shavings and the glue solution, avoiding agglomeration
Mat forming line, It is used to lay the wood chips mixed with glue in a directional structure to form a board blank (Mat), which directly affects the strength, stability and density distribution of the board
Work flow:
After the wood shavings are mixed with rubber, they enter the laying machine from the silo through the metering system. The flow rate is regulated in real time by sensors. The surface laying (upper and lower layers) :
The shavings are arranged along the length of the board (longitudinally) through directional rollers or air flow nozzles, providing longitudinal bending strength.
Core layer paving (middle layer)
The wood shavings are randomly or laterally arranged to balance the internal stress of the board and prevent warping. The thickness of the slab is detected by the leveling roller or the air pressure sensor, and the laying amount is feedback adjusted (the tolerance of the target thickness is ±0.5mm).
Continuous Multi-rolls Pre-press, It is used for the initial compaction of loosely laid slabs, to expel air, reduce thickness, and provide a stable slab structure for the hot pressing process. Its core function is to enhance the hot-pressing efficiency and prevent sheet defects (such as bubbling and delamination).
Work flow:
After laying, the loose slabs (with an initial thickness of approximately 100 to 300mm) are conveyed to the inlet of the pre-press by the forming belt. The upper and lower steel belts gradually apply pressure, and the slabs are compressed to the target thickness (such as 30 to 50mm) during their movement. During the compression process, the air inside the slabs is discharged through the edges or pre-set exhaust holes, reducing the risk of "steam burst" during hot pressing. The density of the compacted slab is increased (about 0.4 to 0.6 g/cm³), and it is directly sent into the hot press by the conveyor belt
Multi-opening Hot press with Cooling frame, Through the coordinated control of temperature, pressure and time, the efficient curing of the adhesive and the densification of the board are achieved
Hot press can be designed to be different layers as different requires.
Except Multi opening hot press, there is another press type, it is Continuous Presses, suitable for bigger production capacity and higher accuracy
Automatic Edge trimming machine, for automatic trimming and cutting the edge of OSB board, to make each OSB board are same size as required.
