What is the OSB boards?

Oriented Strand Board (OSB for short) is an engineered wood board made by gluing together wood chips (strands) arranged in a directional manner under high temperature and high pressure. Due to its advantages such as high strength, low cost and environmental friendliness, it is widely used in fields such as construction, packaging and furniture. How to make OSB (Oriented Strand Board)?

√ Raw Materials Preparation

Log peeling: Remove the bark (the bark contains impurities, which affect the bonding strength).

Cutting: Cut the logs into lengths suitable for slicing (usually 1.2-2.5 meters).

Softening treatment (optional) : Soak in steam or hot water to make the wood easier to plane.

Equipment: Disk Strander or Drum Strander.

√ Strands making

Planing wood chips: Cut wood segments into oriented wood chips (strands) that are 50-150mm in length, 10-40mm in width, and 0.3-0.8mm in thickness.

Screening and grading: The vibrating screen removes overly fine crushed materials and overly large wood chips to ensure uniform dimensions

√ Drying

Wood strands will enter Rotary drum dryer and drying the high moisture, make the final moisture is suitable for next production step.

√ Glue Applying and Blending

Wood chips are mixed with adhesive and wax (water repellent) in a mixer.

Glue amount control: Usually 6-12% (accounting for the weight of dry wood chips)

√ Mat Forming

By mechanical or air flow paving, the surface layer of the wood chips is arranged longitudinally and the core layer is arranged transversely, forming a cross structure.

Surface layer laying: Wood chips are arranged along the length of the board (to enhance longitudinal strength).

Core layer laying: Wood chips are randomly or laterally arranged (to enhance lateral stability)

√ Pre-pressing

The loose slabs after initial compaction and paving are convenient for entering the hot press

√ Hot Press with Cooling

High temperature and high pressure cure the adhesive, forming high-strength boards. The hot-pressed sheet is cooled to below 50℃ through a cooling frame to prevent deformation

If you want small production capacity, then choose the Multi-opening Hot press will be ok; If you want Big production capacity, then choose the Continuous press.
