In the production of artificial boards (such as particleboard, OSB, MDF), the Forming Machine is a key forming equipment, which is used to evenly lay fibers or shavings into board blanks

now in the market, there are two popular mat former types, one is Mechnical mat former, another one is Airflow mat former, they have their own advantages.

Mechnical Mat Former

√ Working principle:
Fibers or wood shavings are evenly distributed on the forming belt through mechanical devices (such as throwing rollers, metering rollers, and laying heads) to form a multi-layer structure

√ Core Features:

 - Applicable materials:

Suitable for larger particles (such as particleboard, OSB chips or oriented strand chips).

It has strong adaptability to the length and density of fibers.

 - Paving method:

Layer-by-layer paving: It can control the distribution of different particle sizes (such as fine surface materials and coarse core materials).

 - Directional laying (OSB dedicated) : The directional arrangement of wood shavings (horizontally/vertically) is achieved through mechanical swing arms.

Precision control

The thickness is adjusted by relying on mechanical metering rollers and scrapers, with relatively high accuracy (±1mm).

Mechanical components (such as bearings and drive belts) need to be maintained regularly.

The fibers are suspended and evenly blown onto the forming belt by high-pressure air flow to form a fluffy and uniform board blank

√ Core Features:

Applicable materials:

Designed specifically for fine fibers (such as wood fibers of MDF and HDF).

It has an excellent laying effect on superfine fibers (0.1-0.5mm).

Paving method:

Suspended paving: The fibers are dispersed in the airflow, avoiding clumping caused by mechanical compression.

Single-layer uniform structure: Suitable for the homogenization requirements of high-density boards.

Precision control

The thickness is adjusted by air flow velocity and negative pressure, with higher accuracy (±0.5mm).

The stability of the airflow needs to be controlled (humidity and temperature have a significant impact).
