What Equipmnent required for MDF Board Production?

This production line is a large-scale 250,000 m³/year continuous-press MDF complete equipment system, configured sequentially as follows:

 

In the raw material preparation section, the main equipment includes a chipper, which processes logs or large feedstock into regular wood chips. A hammer-type re-crusher further reduces oversized particles. A vibrating screen combined with an air classifier precisely grades the crushed material, removing both oversize and undersize impurities. A magnetic separator removes ferrous metals mixed in the raw material to protect downstream equipment.

In the fiber preparation section, the core equipment is a refiner, used together with a steaming vessel, which softens the raw material with high-temperature steam before grinding it into fine fiber bundles. A screw conveyor smoothly transfers the steamed material into the refiner, while a fiber buffer bin balances and equalizes the fiber supply to ensure continuous and stable operation for subsequent stages.

In the glue application and drying section, a high-precision glue metering pump unit and static mixing tubes are installed to accurately mix the adhesive with the fibers at a preset ratio. The wetted fibers then enter a flash-tube dryer, where high-velocity hot air rapidly evaporates moisture. A cyclone separator collects the dried fibers from the airstream, and a drying exhaust gas treatment system purifies the discharged hot air to meet environmental emission standards.

In the mat forming section, the key device is an air former, which uses air flow to evenly spread fibers onto a conveying belt to form a continuous mat. A mat weighing system continuously monitors fiber weight per unit area. A leveling roller smooths the mat surface, and a pre-press lightly compacts the mat to increase its strength. A mat cut-off saw can sever the continuous mat into specific lengths when required.

In the hot pressing section, a continuous flat-press hot press is installed, available in 4-roll or 6-roll configurations, with a thermal oil heating system providing a stable heat source. Infeed and outfeed conveyor systems ensure smooth entry and exit of the mat, enabling uninterrupted continuous production.

In the post-processing section, a cooling board turner gradually reduces the temperature of the hot-pressed boards to room temperature to prevent warping. Cross-cut and edge-trimming saws cut the rough boards to standard finished dimensions. A finished board stacker automatically stacks the cut boards neatly for subsequent transfer and warehousing.

In the sanding and inspection section, a double-side wide-belt sander with fine sanding heads precision-sands both the upper and lower surfaces of the boards, achieving the flatness and smoothness required for lamination. An online laser thickness gauge, density detector, and defect scanner form a complete inline quality inspection system, inspecting each board individually to ensure that no non-conforming products reach the packaging stage.

Production Line Process

This line adopts the dry-process thin-board MDF continuous manufacturing method, with the following steps:

 

1. Raw Material Preparation & Cleaning: Materials are chipped, crushed, screened, air-classified, and magnetically separated to remove impurities and obtain uniformly sized fine particles.

2. Fiber Separation (Refining): Cleaned fine particles are softened by high-temperature steam in a steaming vessel and then fed into a refiner to be ground into fine fiber bundles.

3. Glue Application & Drying: Fibers are metered and sent to the glue application pipe, where they are evenly mixed with adhesive, then passed through a flash-tube dryer where hot air reduces moisture content to 6%-10% (lower for thin boards).

4. Mat Forming & Pre-Pressing: The glued and dried fibers are air-formed into a continuous mat, weighed and leveled, then lightly compacted by a pre-press.

5. Continuous Hot Pressing: The mat enters a continuous flat-press hot press where it is cured under high temperature and high pressure, with the press gap precisely set to the target thickness of 2.5mm.

6. Cooling & Sawing: Hot boards are cooled through a cooling turner, then cross-cut and edge-trimmed to standard dimensions.

7. Sanding & Quality Inspection: Cut boards are double-side sanded to achieve the required surface smoothness, then passed through online inspection systems for thickness, density, and defect detection before being graded and stored.
