Rice Husk Particle Board Introduction

What is the Rice husk chipboard?

Rice Husk Particleboard is an environmentally friendly artificial board made mainly from rice husks. It is a type of particleboard. It uses agricultural waste - rice husks as the filling material and combines adhesives (such as urea-formaldehyde resin, phenolic resin or eco-friendly adhesives) for hot pressing to form. It has the advantages of low cost, environmental friendliness, pest and mold prevention, etc., and is suitable for furniture, construction and packaging fields.

Advantages by raw materials Rice husk:

1. Environmental Protection Property

   Utilize agricultural waste to reduce pollution from incineration; some products are free of formaldehyde (such as those using MDI glue)

2. Insect and Mold Prevention

    Rice husks contain silicon dioxide, which naturally resists insect damage and prevents mold growth.

3. Mechanical Property

    The density is relatively low (0.6 - 0.8 g/cm³), and the strength is similar to that of ordinary particleboard.

4. Water Proof

    It can be improved by adding a waterproofing agent (such as paraffin).

5. Low cost

    The price of rice husks is low and the raw materials are readily available.

Application of Rice husk chipboard:

- Furniture manufacturing: Cabinet bodies, tabletops, drawer panels, etc. (surface needs to be covered with leather or painted). 
- Building decoration: Partition wall panels, ceiling, floor base materials. 
- Packaging industry: A substitute for EPS foam, used for cushioning packaging. 
- Other uses: Exhibition display boards, temporary building templates, etc.

Rice Husk Particleboard mainly consists of the following production steps: Raw material processing, Drying, Gluing, Laying, Pre-press, Hot pressing and Post-processing.

As the particleboard size, production capacity, glue types, these equipment specification can be different.

Production step of Rice husk chipboard

1. Rice husk processing
Cleaning: Remove impurities such as dust and sand from the rice husks (this can be done using a vibrating screen or by washing with water). 
Drying: Control the moisture content within 8% to 12% (excess moisture will affect the bonding effect). 
Crushing: Use a crusher to process rice husks into particles ranging from 0.5 to 3 mm (particles larger than this will affect bonding, while those smaller will reduce strength)

2. Mixing adhesive
Adhesive dosage: 8% - 15% of the weight of rice husks (adjust according to the type of adhesive). 
Mixing method: Use a high-speed mixer to ensure that the rice husk particles are evenly coated with the glue. 
Addition sequence: Rice husk → Adhesive → Waterproofing agent/Other additives.

3. Forming
Layered paving: Comprises a surface layer (fine particles) and a core layer (coarse particles), enhancing the smoothness and strength of the pavement surface. 
Paving thickness: Adjust according to the target density of the board (usually with a compression ratio of 1.3 to 1.5, meaning the paving thickness is 1.3 to 1.5 times that of the finished board).

4. Pre-compression
Cold pressing: Apply a pressure of 0.5 to 1 MPa at room temperature for 30 to 60 seconds to reduce the looseness of the billet during hot pressing.

5. Hot pressing

Through High temperature and high pressure to pressing the boards to be solid, make inside glue curing

6. Post-processing
Cooling: After leaving the press, stack for 24 hours to balance internal stresses. 
Edge trimming: Cut to standard dimensions (such as 1220×2440mm). 
Sanding: Using a sanding machine to treat the surface and improve the smoothness. 
Quality inspection: Testing density, static bending strength (MOR), internal bonding strength (IB) and formaldehyde emission.

Continuous Pre-press

Multi-layers Hot press

Continuous Flat Hot press

Through continuous pre-press, the formed panel thickness will be compressed and with a certain strenth, to keep the panel is good during transport to hot press; and it will vent inside air to avoid causing bubbing and delamination.

Multi-layers Hot press with Automatic loader and unloader system, for automatic loading particleboard and unloading pressed chipboard, improve work efficiency. 

Hot press will pressing the particleboard through high temperature and pressure to make inside glue curing and make panel be strong and solid.

This is another type hot press, compare the Multi-layers hot press, this type can keep working continuous and uninterrupted, to achieve large production scale from 100,000-500,000cbm per year.
